Being Vulnerable

I had the bright idea to play the $5 Razz tourney last night. I realized it wasn't to smart after a series of three hands knocked me out. The third one was really just a position of needing chips so I was willing to gamble a little but the other two were both by the same guy and he was a guy who was willing to chase. I really can't blame him in the first one...well I can but...here it is.

I really hate this making the pot big so early in a hand but I am going to see a flop. The may be holding my outs but I want to see one.

I'm not getting away yet. There is a lot of money in the pot and nobody has a made hand. I don't like reraising the 2nd best hand here so I only call.

I stay the same but it looks like a actually improve. I bet again and get called down. Both players are chasing good draws better then my 8 and maybe better then my 7 if it hits.

I improve but get reraised. A check call may have been better as the only player that raises me probably has me beat.

He hit a better 7 and I lose a nice size pot. I think he had odds to chase here with all that money in the pot. I may also chase here. Nice hand for him and bad luck for me. The chat was interesting after the hand.

pokerenthusiast: n catch (and I meant it. I was vulnerable)
robertshoe: sorry =/
pokerenthusiast: no your not
pokerenthusiast: or you would have folded
pokerenthusiast: :)
robertshoe: to some extent, i don't like dishing out bbs :(

Really wasn't that bad a beat.

Anyway, I had this hand with him later and I think I made one mistake though I don't think he folds. He hadn't folded anything vs. anyone up to this point.

I bet call here as agro man reraises again. With a shorter stack I was willing to call with my 8 behind and take a chance.

Here I should have reraised or folded. I think I can make an argument either way. With 724 showing I could represent a made 7 but with my short stack I don't think he folds. He also appears to have a better hand.

By his comments I think he may have already had the 7 but I'm not sure. He had raised with Ts and 9s behind and tried to use aggression to bully people. This was probably a hand I get away from if my stack is bigger.

On the first hand (8765), I really think you should consider jamming 4th in many similar situations. The pot is big (because of the 3rd street action) so you should be acting to increase your share of it--- that means doing whatever you can to knock out players.

In this situation, however, your hand is so rough that the J and Q are often not all that far behind you... you might even have the 3rd-best hand. But "I don't like to raise the 2nd-best" isn't sufficient reason not to raise here.
